Ulcer Symptoms

While there are a number of different ulcers there are some very common similarities between them all. For instance an ulcer is an open sore or a lesion. This open wound forms on the body, generally it is found on areas of the mucous membrane. You will however find ulcer that have formed on the skin. Each of these ulcers while being different seem to have almost the same types of ulcer symptoms.

For peptic ulcers the symptoms are not always present but if you suspect that you have a peptic ulcer then these are the ulcer symptoms that you should notice. There will be a gnawing pain that can awaken you from sleeping. This pain condition can change when you eat. The duration of the pain can last for a few minutes to several hours. You will feel extremely hungry.

Other ulcer symptoms that you may experience will include nausea, vomiting, loss of appetite, feeling bloated and burping. Remember that you may not experience any of these but if you do experience them you should see a doctor to get a diagnosis.

The ulcer symptoms of duodenal ulcer can be pain in your upper abdomen and just below the breastbone. The pain will come and go. Generally you will feel pain before mealtimes or even when you are hungry. This pain can be eased by eating or taking antacid medicine. You may also find your self waking up from sleep.

Bloating, vomiting, feeling sick are some of the other ulcer symptoms that you will experience during duodenal ulcers. There will also be times when you will feel very full after you have just eaten and sometimes your meal can make the ulcer pains worse.

The ulcer symptoms of skin ulcers are found to be an area of reddened skin. In advanced skin ulcer cases, the ulcer symptoms will be an open wound with watery discharge. When a peptic ulcer is left untreated it becomes a bleeding ulcer. Before this occurs you will be given certain ulcer symptoms. These may be nausea, heartburn, indigestion or even abdominal pains, vomiting blood. This blood may appear as a bright red or coffee ground black. You will also have black, tarry stools. There can also be as part of the ulcer symptoms abdominal cramping.

As you see there are many similarities between the various ulcers but there are also quite a few differences. These differences are the keys to knowing which type of ulcer that is affecting you. Without these ulcer symptoms you would end up being treated for a complaint that has nothing to do with your health. Therefore you should pay attention to the various ulcer symptoms that you could have inform your doctor so that the proper medication can be given.
